I'm pretty new at this, so maybe what I have to say means nothing, but my Necro kicks serious butt. This is PvE btw.

I started playing Prophecies a week before Christmas (early x-mas present for me) and as usual I went with a mage character, or what GW calls an Elementalist. Whatever. But playing my ele/me up to level 17, I wasn't all that happy. I had the help of a very high level player putting together a build that she used and that worked if I killed quick. If I got mobbed, I was basically dead unless there was a good healer in the group.

It wasn't until I made a Necro character that I really started having tons of fun (she's a n/mo). She's not real high at the moment, only a lvl 12, but with a few level 8 henchmen out the Grendich Courthouse we cleared Diessa Lowlands and the Breach out of every single charr... not a single charr remained alive. We even killed that huge Charr army/gathering at the ruined temple, the one with the two bosses. One was yellow, don't remember the other. My ele henchmen is the only one who died during the entire siege of Diessa lowlands. My own Necro character never once dropped below 2/3rds health. I don't think I could have done this with my ele/me character.

I kept up my bone minion army... I could have 6 total. Constantly stole health from enemies and just blazed through charr group after charr group. Now THAT was fun. It's really fun in the Eastern Frontier to have my little minion mob kill those irritating devourers for me. I just stand back and they bash it to death. lol.

Maybe things will change once I get to higher levels, but right now, my Necro is loads more fun than my ele and appears much more powerful.

Soul reaping pwns most of PvE. Also, Necromancers can cause easily noticeable effects by themselves.

However, don't underestimate Elementalists. They require a bit more teamwork (or control of heroes and hences) in order to fully utilize their potential. Searing Flames, wards, snares (works absolute wonders for keeping the warrior baddies off your monks) and so forth...

I know I'll go back to playing my ele, and yes, they do require teamwork and control of henchmen, and because of that, I got pretty good at commanding henchmen. I did Althea's Ashes with henchmen out of Grendich courthouse. Through a series of attacks and retreats we killed all the charr around the temple and around the temple area and no one died during that assault. It takes patients and a strategy. I couldn't just rush in as I recently told a group I was helping for that quest and sure enough, they rushed in and all died. Love the way people ask for help and then ignore all your instructions.

I had 5 chars before I made my necro 2 months ago and have never looked back, whilst I enjoyed my ranger and ele immensely the necro is hands down my favourite char.

There is simply so much you can do with them, go and ascend against your doppleganger and watch him fall over in about 12 seconds just with awaken the blood, ss & insd parasite in your bar whilst you stand there laughing at him lol

there is just so much scope with your necro using primary skills alone, hook in your secondary profession and there is no end to the fun, 55 necro I find to be better than my monk or ele for farming in a lot of areas.

Necromancers are easily the premier PvE class in the game. No matter what youre doing, there will be a spot for a necromancer be it as SS (Spiteful Spirit), MM (Minion Master), BiP (Blood is Power), or some crazy off-the-wall build that will probably still work fine just because Necromancers own that much.

The real question should be "What can't you do as a Necro?"

But keep in mind you are only level 17...not even ascended yet...you have no elites I'm guessing...or very few. Heck you may not even have some of your best non-elites yet.

[card]Insidious Parasite[/card] [card]Enfeeble[/card] [card]Parasitic Bond[/card]

I use to run a cursing blood build...I think it went something like:
[skill]Vampiric Gaze[/skill][skill]Life Siphon[/skill][skill]Suffering[/skill][skill]Insidious Parasite[/skill][skill]Parasitic Bond[/skill][skill]Fire Storm[/skill][skill]Well of Blood[/skill][skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]

This was back in the day when refund points still existed....back around the time when Cin was level 15-17. I would often swap out other curses and try out different things but that bar got me through a major portion of the game.

I tried running a MM build early on....but that was also back before VSac was nerfed and in fact before I had aquired it....so it left a bad taste in my mouth...I hated having to clean up after everyone ;P

Nowadays I can run almost anything....except a SV build, I still haven't finished Factions....and unless I really need that elite I may never finish it. I might just pvp to unlock the Factions elites I dont have rather than finish the story.

Necros are 'da bomb.....literally. ;P

The key thing about necromancers is that they have built-in energy management. While other professions have to rely on skills or waiting to recover energy, you just need things around you to die. And let's face it - if things aren't dying around you regularly, something is wrong.

LOL I found this particularly funny... It's in the nature of a necro for things around it to die regularly.

N/RT healing is awesome, I bring n/rt hero when I go vanquishing rather than std monk hench, never runs out of energy and always keeps the party alive.

I have been using a type of sabway, my char=curses, n/mo jagged MM, n/rt Healer, rt/n explosive growth MM (switched in jagged for golem) seems to go through everything like butter (when I get to 8 man areas I bring prot hench, melee, fire & earth eles)

I have only come across one area where SS was not beastly, and that was the dungeon in Gwen called Shards of Orr, because practically every mob in the house has some kind of hex removal, including some with expel hexes. SS + Insidious Parasite is just too potent on pve melee mobs to be ignored, then spam Necrosis every other second to painfully pop them with another 90 damage at max sunspear rank.

Then you have Blood Ritual, which can literally save your entire team when you keep it up on the monks. They can just keep healing the party as long as your making progress and killing a single mob here and there, you can keep BR on 2 monks infinately. Having a tank aggro, a bonder, a healer, and primary dps are essential, but with a necro on board it solidifies the team to another level. You can hit them with powerful AoE by spreading SS with Arcane Echo, insane single target damage with SS, Necrosis, and IP, and also keep the mana flow going in the group.

The only reason to not like SS, is I don't see a reason to play any other type of build as a necro since a hero can MM well but can never SS near as good as a real player. In PVP blood can be very powerful, especially with Echo Angorodon's Gaze and Blood Drinker (which got nerfed but is still good).
